What is the Members’ Day and AGM?
Every Spring we hold our Annual General Meeting (AGM). All members are invited to attend. At the AGM the Director’s Report and Accounts for the last financial year are considered, the results of the Board and Council elections are announced and any decisions that require members’ approval are discussed.
[Back to top]How do I register to attend?
All members have been sent a proxy card through the post. If you would like to attend please complete and return this form.
[Back to top]Where is the 2012 AGM?
This year the AGM will be held in Oxford at the Oxford Town Hall. Full details can be found in the AGM brochure.
[Back to top]I have a joint account, can we both attend?
Yes, however our rules state that each account has one vote regardless of account holders.
[Back to top]What is the Board?
The Board of Directors currently includes two executive directors and six non-executives. Its role is to determine and monitor the implementation of strategy for the Society, make sure that risks are managed appropriately and provide a proper account to members of the financial and social results of the Society.
[Back to top]What is the Council?
The Shared Interest Council is chosen from the membership of the Shared Interest Society. The Council is made up of nine individuals, three of whom are directly elected by the membership and six who are randomly selected, (and agree to stand).
[Back to top]What are contested elections?
We have three seats available on the Council and four potential candidates. Candidates have summarised their experience in the AGM brochure and Members have been asked to vote for their three preferred candidates.
[Back to top]How is this different to previous years?
At the 2012 AGM we will be holding elections for all three of the elected positions. For the first time in our history we will be holding contested elections and pitches from all four candidates can be found in the AGM brochure. One of these, Margaret Newens, is already a member of Council and is seeking re-election.
[Back to top]Can members vote for all four candidates?
As the Council elections are contested members can only vote for three of the four candidates.
[Back to top]How do I vote?
All Members have been sent a voting card and a freepost envelope. These need to be completed and returned to the office by Wednesday 14th March 2012. Members can also appoint a proxy but the form still needs to completed and returned. The card offers the opportunity to vote for members of the Board and the Council.
