Shortlisted for Charity of the Year

Shared Interest Foundation was founded on the belief that everyone deserves the chance to provide for themselves and their family. We also believe that helping someone to build a strong business is a respectful way to fight poverty in the developing world.

Head of Foundation Chris Pay said: "Shared Interest Foundation helps businesses grow in the developing world, improving the livelihoods of almost 60,000 people. The majority of our work has been in Africa, where we supported over 100 businesses in eight countries last year.

"We have been shortlisted for this award for our Access to Finance project funded by Comic Relief. This project has seen us help farmers and handcraft makers in Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Uganda, and Ivory Coast to source the finance they need to grow. This project benefitted over 30,000 people, with finance of £2.5m enabling improved trading opportunities for fair trade organisations. We are now planning to roll this out in other countries."

The Charity Times Awards continue to be the pre-eminent celebration of best practice in the UK charity and not-for-profit sector. Now in their 17th year, the awards are run by Charity Times Magazine - the leading title for UK non-profit professionals.

This year's winners will be announced at the Charity Times Awards Gala Dinner & Ceremony on 28 September 2016 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London.
