STATEMENT ON TRAIDCRAFT'S RECENT ANNOUNCEMENT

STATEMENT ON TRAIDCRAFT'S RECENT ANNOUNCEMENT TO CEASE TRADE IN DECEMBER

It is with great sadness we heard that fellow fair trade organisation, Traidcraft will cease trading in December, after honouring all outstanding commitments with producers.

One of the founding members of Fairtrade Foundation, Traidcraft was known for its deep commitment to fair trade, and innovation in the sector. Seen as a pioneer, the organisation has brought several new products to the fair trade market, and forged strong links with schools, churches and community groups across the UK.

You may already know that the founders of Traidcraft identified the gap that existed in producer finance, out of which Shared Interest was born. Although completely separate organisations, we will miss their presence in both the North East region and ethical sector. Shared Interest will however continue as normal, providing a financial lifeline to fair trade producers around the world.

Shared Interest Managing Director, Patricia Alexander said: “Traidcraft has been an integral part of the Fairtrade story since its inception. Without its existence, many other ethical businesses in this region and beyond would not be here today. The organisation may be closing, but Traidcraft’s legacy will live on.”
