Strengthening the Resilience of Coffee Farmers in Uganda through Passionfruit Production

In this final session, delivered by Harriet Urwin and Kodzo Korkortsi of the Shared Interest Foundation Team, you can discover how our Foundation works towards strengthening the resilience of coffee farmers in Uganda through passionfruit production.

In Uganda, coffee provides a source of livelihood for over 1.8 million smallholder farmers. However, challenges of climate change and use of traditional farming methods means that many farmers struggle to earn enough from this single crop to meet the needs of their household.

In 2021 we launched a two-year project in partnership with Fairtrade coffee co-operative, Bukonzo, to support 365 of their coffee farmers to improve the quality and quantity of their crop through training in good agricultural practices, organic fertiliser production and climate smart farming techniques. The farmers also received tools and training to diversify into passion fruit production to generate an additional source of income and increase their financial resilience.

In this session, Harriet and Kodzo give an overview of this project, share stories of impact and answer questions. To discover more about Bukonzo and the work of the Shared Interest Foundation, please visit the links below:
