Non-Executive Director(s)

Please note this is a UK-based role.

Positions

We are looking for individuals to join our Board who have a strong interest in the work that we do and would like to support the organisation by providing mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by Shared Interest’s Management Team, appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and encouraged.  We are currently seeking candidates with knowledge, skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:  

  • Commercial or Social Lending
  • Venture Capitalism
  • Environmental
  • Specific Board Member responsibilities include:
  • Commitment to the work of the organisation
  • Advising and supporting the management team as they develop and implement Shared Interest’s strategic plan
  • Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by Shared Interest for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring its performance and effectiveness using those metrics
  • Reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
  • Approving Shared Interest’s annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; being informed of, and meeting all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
  • Serving on committees
  • Representing Shared Interest to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organisation
  • Attendance at Board meetings
  • A time commitment outside of Board meeting for email correspondence, including Board preparation, committee meeting time etc.
  • Attendance at Annual General Meeting
  • Participation in the discussions and the deliberations of the Board
  • Being aware and abstaining  from any conflict of interest

Time Commitment  

There are five Board Meetings per year in addition to the AGM and any sub-committee meetings. Sub-committees include Remuneration, Credit Proposals, Audit and Nominations.  Non-Executive Directors are also expected to attend a minimum of one members event per year.  This means the time commitment is 12 days.  

Remuneration

Non-executives currently receive £3,204 pa.  In addition to this, reasonable travel and other incidental expenses are reimbursed.

Ambassador (volunteer)

Please note this is a UK-based voluntary role.

We are looking for volunteers to support us in spreading the word about Shared Interest. Our network of ambassadors represent Shared Interest in their local area. They inspire others to support us and invest by seeking opportunities to increase awareness of Shared Interest such as delivering talks and running stalls. Supporting our Member Engagement Team, ambassadors contribute their knowledge and passion to enable us to reach potential investors. Volunteers make a big difference to our ability to lend and last year they brought in 12% of new investment. 

This volunteer role is home based and you will be supported remotely by a dedicated member of staff. Email, phone and / or Skype communication will be required.

The role is ongoing and the time commitment depends on your capacity to generate opportunities. We are looking for volunteers who would aim to fulfil four activities per year. You will have the opportunity to utilise and develop your networking and communication skills and you will help us raise even more investment so we can enable disadvantaged communities to trade their way out of poverty.

Community Supporter (volunteer)

Please note this is a UK-based voluntary role.

Our network of community supporters represent Shared Interest in their local area. They inspire others to support us and invest in a number of ways, including, helping at and running stalls and displaying posters. Supporting our Member Engagement Team and ambassadors, community supporters contribute their knowledge and passion to enable us to reach potential investors. Volunteers make a big difference to our ability to lend and last year they brought in 12% of new investment. 

This volunteer role is home based and you will be supported remotely by a dedicated member of staff. Email, phone and / or Skype communication will be required. 

The role is ongoing and the time commitment is flexible depending on your availability. We are looking for volunteers who would aim to commit to two activities per year. You will have the opportunity to utilise and develop your communication skills and you will help us raise even more investment so we can enable disadvantaged communities to trade their way out of poverty.

Local Supporter - Brighton, Cambridge and York (volunteer)

Please note this is a UK-based voluntary role.

We are looking for volunteers in the Brighton, Cambridge and York areas to help us raise awareness of Shared Interest to the public.  Supporting our Member Engagement Team, you will use your local networks and contacts to do some or all of the following:

  • Raise awareness of Shared Interest through providing information to local groups, organisations and networks
  • Research and approach local media outlets for publicity opportunities such as community newsletters, local press and faith based media
  • Seek appropriate opportunities for display of Shared Interest posters and/or leaflets
  • Research social media for potential networks and audiences for Shared Interest in the local area

About the role

This role is home based and you will be supported remotely by a dedicated member of staff.  Email, phone and / or Skype communication will be required.

The role is for a fixed period of three months, the time commitment within that is flexible depending on your availability.  We are looking for volunteers who can commit to four activities over that time.  The role will begin in April 2019.

You will have the opportunity to utilise and develop your communication skills and you will help us raise even more investment so we can enable even more disadvantaged communities to trade their way out of poverty.

We would love to hear from you if you:

  • Are pro-active and self-motivated
  • Have existing networks locally and strong research skills to build on these
  • Can inspire others and have good people skills
  • Have empathy with the aims and objectives of Shared Interest
  • Use email and are computer literate (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)

We will support you with the following:

  • Induction training (online)
  • Ongoing support with a staff contact
  • Resources to support you in your role
  • Basic reference (if requested)

EVENT ASSISTANT – JUST V SHOW (VOLUNTEER)

Please note this is a UK-based voluntary role.

We are looking for volunteers to help man our stall at Just V Show in London from 5th – 7th July.

This role is a one-off opportunity to support our presence at Just V Show https://www.justvshow.co.uk/london . You will be responsible for ensuring visitors to our stall are engaged and learn about Shared Interest. You will be working with a small number of other volunteers and staff will be supported with resources and materials to give away. We are looking for volunteers who can commit between two and four hours between 10am and 5pm on any day of the show. The role will be active from 5th – 7th July 2019.

EVENT ASSISTANT – GREENBELT (VOLUNTEER)

We are looking for volunteers to help man our stall at Greenbelt festival in Northamptonshire from 23rd - 26th August.

This role is a one-off opportunity to support our presence at Greenbelt ( https://www.greenbelt.org.uk/ ). You will be responsible for ensuring visitors to our stall are engaged and learn about Shared Interest. You will be working with a small number of other volunteers and will be supported with resources and materials to give away.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit between two and four hours during the festival. The role will be active from 23rd - 26th August 2019.
